What is Participatory Leadership

What is Participatory Leadership?

“Participatory leadership is an approach to leadership that scales up from the personal to the systemic using personal practice, dialogue, facilitation and co-creation of innovation to address complex challenges.” Art of Hosting (www.artofhosting.org)

Participatory leadership (also known as Art of Hosting) is a highly effective way of harnessing the collective wisdom and self-organising capacity of groups of any size.

"Participatory Leadership offers a blend of some of the most powerful methods to create open and meaningful conversations that leads to commitments and good results."

What does it mean for me?

"Participatory leadership is a mindset, an approach to living and working in families and communities which centres on conversation, caring for each other and living in the present. Ideas and connection grows in this space. Once you’ve linked in to this way of thinking, it’s a lot easier than you think and you can see that all the pieces are interconnected and the relationships that are building."
Angela Williams (Community Development, Bundaberg)

How do we use it?

Working with a range of collaborative methods including Circle, World Café, Appreciative Inquiry, Open Space Technology, Storytelling and more, you too can use particpatory leadership processes and methods and truly embrace a collaborative engagement approach that's tailored to your need and purpose.

UnitingCare Community is actively practicing this way of engaging with our clients, communities and our staff, with the aim to build a culture that is aligned with our organisation values.

Join a workshop and experience for yourself, the power of co-design and collaboration. The What's On section will let you know when upcoming workshops are happening.
